The country s top comedians face the challenge of finding the funny in Covid-19 when the International Comedy Festival returns this May.
The festival has today unveiled its line-up, with more than 80 events spread across four weeks that will see dozens of comedians taking to stages throughout Auckland and Wellington.
It s a much-needed boost to the local comedy industry, which was dealt a massive blow when last year s festival was cancelled due to lockdown.
And those comedians get to take centre stage, as border closures mean the international part of the festival is on hold for now.
Who am I to be writing a book review?
That’s my general thought process sitting down to write this.
But perhaps, it isn’t a bad attitude to have in reviewing or indeed reading this particular book – Seamus O’Rourke’s memoir,

Barbara Rickles, the widow of the comedian Don Rickles and a fictionalized target of his comic insults, died on Sunday, which would have been their 56th wedding anniversary, at her home in Los Angeles. She was 84.
A spokesman, Paul Shefrin, said the cause was non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
The challenge involved 100 McDonald s burgers. (Image: Craig Harker/SWNS) I m not a competitive eater. I run challenges but as for the eating side, I m just a normal dad who loves food. I wanted to make the biggest cheeseburger in the world. When I picked it up from the drive-thru it was quite heavy. It felt about two to three kilos. Although, despite ordering all those burgers, McDonald s forgot my fries! There was only one portion.
The burger weighed about 3kg. (Image: Craig Harker/SWNS) At first it was more about the creation. I wanted to see what it would look like. Turns out it s a lot harder than what it looks like!
